LAST WEEK’S PICK:
Last week’s pick – a very solid 15″ Tex Tan Hereford Trail Saddle – ended up being a darn good bargain for some lucky buyer. With 16 bids in, the winning bidder still ended up only paying $285 for this very nice saddle – A bonafide bargain.
THIS WEEK’S PICK:
This week we’ve found a real jewel – a hard-to-find Genuine Billy Cook (Sulphur, OK) youth saddle. This saddle is a 12″ Billy Cook Barrel Saddle and it’s a great little ride. It’s hard to find used youth saddles from a quality brand such as Genuine Billy Cook.
The saddle has basket weave tooling, rough out fenders and jockeys and a suede seat. There’s an amateur repair on one fender but, while ugly (you could have a professional do a better repair), it doesn’t affect the stability of the saddle.
This would be a great saddle for a youth rider, especially one who rides in competitive events.
Like last week’s gem, this saddle is generating quite a few bids at low bid prices. As of this writing, there are 13 bids but a high bid price of only $102.50. This one could be a real steal.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:
Last week’s pick – a really attractive 15.5″ Billy Royal Show Saddle – ended up not being sold because the bids didn’t meet the seller’s reserve price. I think the seller was holding out for too high a price. The highest bid was $855 and, though the saddle is worth more than that, there is a glut of used saddles on the market and you’re just not going to get top dollar these days. It really is a buyer’s market right now.
This week, we’ve found one of those hard-to-find youth saddles. The saddle is a 13″ Youth Trail Saddle.
There’s no maker’s mark, but it appears to be a solid little saddle. And, what really stands out is that, with a 6″ gullet, it’s not just a pony saddle, but will fit a small horse. That makes it a much more versatile saddle.
The leather’s in good condition and it’s a handsome little saddle. So, if you have a youth rider in the family, this would be a great saddle to have in your barn.
The saddle is listed for a “Buy It Now” price of $299 or Best Offer. That’s a good price for this saddle.

Call me old fashion, but I like a western saddle to LOOK like a western saddle. Many of the new western saddle designs sure don’t look western to me. That’s why I love vintage saddles. They always look like western saddles.
Circle Y saddles from 25 or 30 years ago are great vintage saddles to shop for. They were well made with quality materials.
This week we’ve found a very nice 13″ Circle Y youth trail saddle. This saddle is in great shape and has many miles left on it. This would be a so much better choice for a young rider than a brand new, inexpensive saddle.
The saddle has a 6 1/2″ gullet and in-skirt full rigging. The suede seat is a worn but still in good shape. The saddle is dark oil, fully floral tooled with silver lacing on the cantle and fork bindings. This is a handsome saddle.
