The “Used Saddle Pick of the Week”

Every week we scour the Internet searching for a particularly juicy bargain on a high quality used western saddle and feature it here on the WSG Saddle Blog. The saddles featured are listed for sale on ebay as of the date of the post.

Checking out our Picks each week will give you some great insight into buying used saddles. Make sure to click through to the actual listing to see all of the photos and description from the seller.

The Western Saddle Guide is not the seller of the saddles featured and does not make any representations about them. We encourage all potential buyers to do their own due diligence on the seller and the saddle before purchasing.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:

Last week we alerted you to a definite hidden gem – a well built 15.5″ Barrel Saddle with no maker’s mark. The lack of a maker’s mark scared some folks away. It did get 14 bids, but sold for only $255. That officially qualifies as a steal.

THIS WEEK’S PICK:

This week we’ve chosen another vintage Simco. This one is a pretty little Simco show saddle with some nice silver.

This is a classic dark oil western pleasure show saddle. A great fit for a small or short-backed horse. It has semi QH bars, a suede seat, and full floral tooling. The leather and fleece are in good condition.

It’s the silver, though, that makes this saddle really special. I really like the more subtle use of silver that you see on the saddles of this era. With silver, a little goes a long way.

A little bit of silver polish and some elbow grease and this little saddle will really sparkle.

As of this writing there have been only two bidders with a current high bid of only $104.50. Might be a steal for the second week in a row.

Antique Simco Trail Saddle

Oh, I am such a sucker for the great old saddle brands of yesterday – Tex Tan, Bona Allen, and Simco, among others. They were just such great using saddles and they are still solid today and are very affordable.

This week we’ve found a unique little Simco gem. It’s a smaller saddle with round skirts and oversized swells that were popular mid last century. This is a saddle with some style, and it’s been lovingly cared for.

This is a saddle for a youth or smaller adult and a smaller horse. With a narrow gullet and a short skirts, this would be a good fit for a short-backed horse with narrow shoulders.

It would also just be a nice little saddle to add to your collection. As of this writing, there’s only one bid for $99.
