LAST WEEK’S PICK:

Last week’s pick – an attractive 15″ Vintage Big Horn All Around Saddle – definitely brought out the bidders. Forty five bidders drove the final winning bid up to $315; not a bargain, but a fair price.

Used Saddlesmith Roper-Pleasure SaddleTHIS WEEK’S PICK:

This week we’ve chosen a brand we haven’t featured before – Saddlesmith Saddlery. Saddlesmith is a relatively new brand that makes good solid saddles. Their higher end, are darn good saddles.

This week’s pick, is a 16″ Saddlesmith Roper/Pleasure Saddle that’s a very solid saddle and a nice choice for an all around saddle.

The saddle is in medium oil with basketweave tooling on the jockeys and skirts and a suede seat.

The seller attempts to show the gullet measurement but they’ve placed the measuring tape in the wrong location. I guarantee you the gullet width isn’t 9 inches at it appears in the photo! I’d guess it’s closer to 6 1/2 inches.

This saddle is nicely broken in and ready for many rides. It’s flying a bit under the radar with no bids as of this writing and a starting bid price of only $250. Take a look at this one if you’re looking for a solid all around saddle.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:

Last week’s Pick, a well crafted 15.5″ Custom Earl Twist Roping Saddle ended up being the bargain I thought it might turn out to be. While there were 26 bids, the saddle went for only $605. The buyer definitely got much more than they paid for. I suspect that Earl Twist isn’t as well known as some other custom makers, so folks mistakenly let this one pass them by.

THIS WEEK’S PICK:

This week we go back to a production brand – Dakota. Dakota is well known for producing plain, but very solid saddles. These aren’t fancy saddles but they’re well constructed and well priced.

This week’s pick is a solid 15″ Dakota Roping Saddle. The saddle is medium oil with no tooling, a suede seat, and full quarter horse bars. It’s been well cared for with the leather in good condition and the stirrups nicely turned.

This would make a nice all around saddle for someone. There are two bids as of this writing, with a high bid of only $50.  This is another bargain looking for a buyer.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:

Last week’s Pick, a classy 16″ Circle Y Show Saddle, generated 15 bids. The final selling price was $840. A good buy. Someone is all set for show season.

circle y show saddleTHIS WEEK’S PICK:

This week our pick comes from a small, quality maker. Carl Ammerman has been building quality custom and semi-custom saddles for thirty years. His saddles are very solid, substantial saddles with top-notch craftsmanship. Nothing flimsy about their saddles.

This week’s pick is a rock solid and handsome 2006 16″ Ammerman Roping Saddle . This saddle has full quarter horse bars, full acorn tooling, and a suede seat. The seller states that it’s never been roped off. The saddle appears to be in great condition.

The seller has only included one photo in their listing but states that they have many more available by email. Make sure to ask for them prior to bidding. I’d ask for photos of the underside fleece lining, close up of the Ammerman manrk, and photo from the off side.

This is a very nice saddle that would be a great all-around saddle for someone for a lifetime.
