LAST WEEK’S PICK:
Last week’s pick – an attractive 15″ Vintage Big Horn All Around Saddle – definitely brought out the bidders. Forty five bidders drove the final winning bid up to $315; not a bargain, but a fair price.
This week we’ve chosen a brand we haven’t featured before – Saddlesmith Saddlery. Saddlesmith is a relatively new brand that makes good solid saddles. Their higher end, are darn good saddles.
This week’s pick, is a 16″ Saddlesmith Roper/Pleasure Saddle that’s a very solid saddle and a nice choice for an all around saddle.
The saddle is in medium oil with basketweave tooling on the jockeys and skirts and a suede seat.
The seller attempts to show the gullet measurement but they’ve placed the measuring tape in the wrong location. I guarantee you the gullet width isn’t 9 inches at it appears in the photo! I’d guess it’s closer to 6 1/2 inches.
This saddle is nicely broken in and ready for many rides. It’s flying a bit under the radar with no bids as of this writing and a starting bid price of only $250. Take a look at this one if you’re looking for a solid all around saddle.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:
Last week’s Pick, a very nice 15.5″ M.L. Leddy Cutting Saddle, looked like someone might steal it early on with only one bid for $100. But cream rises and this saddle ended up selling for $1875.
This week we’ve found a really nice Genuine Billy Cook (Sulphur, OK brand) that would be a wonderful saddle for all around general riding.
The seller calls it an “Original Billy Cook,” but the correct term is “Genuine” as you’ll see on the photo of the maker’s mark on the listing.
This is a 16″ Billy Cook Trail/Pleasure saddle. The saddle is a very handsome dark cherry color with geometric tooling on the jockeys, skirts, fork and cantle. The seller does not mention the gullet width or bar type, so you’ll want to inquire before bidding.
The saddle has obviously been very well cared for, is in great shape and not very old. An Original Billy Cook brand from the Suphur, OK operation will be a very nice quality saddle that will give you many miles.
Better jump on this one, as there are already nine bids as of this writing.
