The “Used Saddle Pick of the Week”

Every week we scour the Internet searching for a particularly juicy bargain on a high quality used western saddle and feature it here on the WSG Saddle Blog. The saddles featured are listed for sale on ebay as of the date of the post.

Checking out our Picks each week will give you some great insight into buying used saddles. Make sure to click through to the actual listing to see all of the photos and description from the seller.

The Western Saddle Guide is not the seller of the saddles featured and does not make any representations about them. We encourage all potential buyers to do their own due diligence on the seller and the saddle before purchasing.

LAST WEEK’S PICK:

Last week’s Pick, an interesting 14″ Corriente Barrel Racing Saddle, generated eight bids and sold for $322. A very nice pick up for the buyer.

This week we go back to one of the storied brands – M.L. Leddy. The Leddy reputation for quality handmade saddles goes back to Texas in the 1920′s and they’re still making gorgeous saddles, boots and other leather work today. Visit ML Leddy’s.

This week’s find is a 15 1/2″ inch M.L. Leddy Cutting saddle. In addition to cutting, these saddles are nice close contact saddles for training and schooling.

The saddle has been well cared for and conditioned. It has rough out fenders and seat jockeys, a suede seat, and geometric tooling on the skirts, back jockeys and fork. The saddle has a wider tree with a gullet width of approximately 7 inches.

This is a handsome, well built saddle from a quality maker that has a lifetime of use left in it. As of this writing, there’s only one bid for $100. Someone is looking to steal it.

Used Tex Leddy Ranch Cutting Saddle

Last week’s Pick, a very nice 14″ Tex Tan Hereford Roping Saddle, remained undiscovered without a single bid place. I suspect the lack of activity was due to the smaller seat size, even though roping saddles tend to be smaller than ranch or trail saddles.

This week we’ve chosen a saddle from a longtime quality maker – ML Leddy’s out of Fort Worth, Texas. This 16″ ranch cutting saddle already has some bid action with the current bid at $510 as of this writing.

This is a saddle that has obviously been put to work with some real miles on it, but its solid craftsmanship means there are many miles left in it. The saddle has a 6 3/4″ gullet, a replacement smooth leather seat, basket weave tooling, and nicely turned stirrups.

Looking at this saddle, you know it’s going to be a great ride.
