Sorry, Brandi. Missed your content til now. Spraying a finish on rough out defeats the purpose - which is to provide grip to your legs. Don't go for looks over function. Roughout will darken over time - from compression, oils, sweat ... but that's what it's supposed to do! Spraying a finish on the roughout is sort of like putting plastic over your furniture!

I have a partial roughout saddle.(fenders) I was wondering if they would stay cleaner and more protected if I sprayed them with a product that is like a flexible clear coat for leather. (Fiebing's leather sheen, or Fiebing's flexible clear coat. I want to keep the roughout's light color and not darken it. Any help would be great! Thanks.

Hi, Vaquerogirl,
I'm not really sure I understand your concern about the fenders hanging "too low" and the skirting being thick. That's all very typical with a Wade saddle. These are heavy working saddles designed to stand up to the hard use of a working cowboy (or cowgirl). You can see a high quality custom Wade by Robert Chavez (my personal saddle) here: http://www.western-saddle-guide.com/my-custom-saddle.html. You'll see the same style fenders and the same thick leather as on the Billy Cook. But despite this heft, the Wade is designed to sit low on the horse and provide surprisingly close contact. That's why it's become so popular as a great riding saddle.

I would like this saddle except for one thing. The fenders seem to hang too low under the jockey, and the solid skirting under the fender seems very thick. Though you can swing your leg forward and back, there won't be a lot of feel under your legs. What are your thoughts on this?

Jeepers, it's really not possible for us to answer these questions for you. We can tell you that a Price McLaughline is a fine saddle. High quality. But as to fit (yours and your horse's) and value, that's not something we can comment on.

Thanks for the reply and the confirmation on the value of a quality saddle. Freckers sells a fine saddle. I know times are tough these days, so used custom or high quality production saddles (i.e McCall) can be a great alternative.

Hi; A fella in Alberta wants to sell his Price McLaughlin 15.5" saddle. It looks good in the picture and comes with headstall, breast collar and pad. I'm 6'-1" and 190 lbs so sort of tall and slim. I've never sat in one of these...do you think it will fit...what should I pay for it? Thanks!
