The Western Folklife Center is an organization dedicated to celebrating the everyday traditions of people who live and work in the American West.
They have a wonderful exhibit going on right now at their Elko, Nevada location called "Back at the Ranch: An Artful Life." But, if you’re far from Elko, you can see a sampling of this wonderful exhibit online: Back at the Ranch: An Artful Life.
My favorite part is the "Tools of the Trade" section where they showcase the work of some wonderful artisans (including silver engraving, braiding, and tooling) and have a series of "Gear Making" videos that you can watch. One video is Dale Harwood, the dean of all western saddle makers, demonstrating leather carving. Fascinating.
