Ray Hunt: A Legend Passes

Master horseman, Ray Hunt, died on March 12th, just a few months shy of his 80th birthday.

Ray had fought COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) for years but didn’t let it stop him from doing what he loved – teaching people to be better horsemen.

Ray was famous for saying he was “in it for the horse” and he could be quite tough on his students. Ray knew that “horse problems” were really “people problems” and had little patience for those who wanted to “fix” their horses.

Ray’s teachings and insight have influenced a generation of horsemen including many of today’s most well known clinicians. Seeing Ray work with horses and horsemen was a treat. Actually working with him could be intimidating but also life changing, if you were open to the experience.

If you haven’t yet discovered Ray Hunt, sadly you’ll no longer be able to experience him first hand. But you can still learn a lot through his books and DVDs, available on the Ray hunt website. An absolute must have is his little “Cowboy Logic” book of Ray Hunt quotes that will get you thinking for days.
