When Buying a Saddle Online, Verify the Saddle Mark

When you’re buying a brand name used saddle online make sure you have clear photographic proof that the saddle is truly the brand advertised.

mark-courts.jpg Any respectable saddle brand or saddle maker will mark their saddles with their saddle mark. This mark might appear on the fenders, on the latigo holder, behind the cantle, on the seat, or other locations. Wherever it’s located, the saddle mark’s job is to identify the maker of the saddle.

So, if the seller claims that the saddle is a Tex Tan Hereford saddle, or a custom Jeremiah Watt  saddle, then make sure they provide you with a  photo where that mark is clearly legible. Ideally, this photo would be a very high resolution digital photo of the entire saddle where you can zoom in on the mark. This way you’re assured that they’re not providing you with a photo of a mark from a different saddle.
