Used Saddle Pick of the Week: 17″ Dakota Wade Saddle

The "Used Saddle Pick of the Week"
Every week we scour the Internet searching for a particularly juicy bargain on a high quality used western saddle and feature it here on the WSG Saddle Blog. The saddles featured are listed for sale on ebay as of the date of the post.

The Western Saddle Guide is not the seller of the saddles featured and does not make any representations about them. We encourage all potential buyers to do their own due diligence on the seller and the saddle before purchasing.

This week, we’ve got a great find for the "big boys." While you’ll see saddles with seats bigger than 17", you shouldn’t buy one. A saddle with a seat any larger than 17" places the riders weight too far back on the horse, putting pressure on the loins. Even with a 17" saddle you should only use it on a horse with a long and strong back.

This week’s choice is a Dakota 17" Wade Tree – a great all around, ranch-style saddle. This is a nice combination of a no-nonsense saddle brand with a no-nonsense saddle style.

dakota-wade.JPGDakota makes nice, no-frills saddles. They put the money where it should be -  into a solid tree and good craftsmanship, rather than into fancy tooling and decoration. So, with Dakota saddles, you’ll get a lot better (but plainer) saddle than most other brands for the same money.

This saddle is very gently used and has it’s whole lifetime ahead of it. It’s a big, sturdy saddle designed for a good sized horse – as any 17" saddle should be. Full QH bars, double rigged, 4 1/2" cantle.

The starting bid is $595 and there’s no bidders as of this writing. If you’re a larger man looking for a suitable and good riding saddle, you might want to snap this one up.
