You won't believe this but I just purchased a Hereford saddle very similar (except mine doesn't have any strings on it, just conchos, and the latigo keeper is missing...the tooling may be a different design as well) for $165 Canadian. Same scallop on the skirt, looks like same seat color. It's a stunning saddle and in very nice shape, just needs a good cleaning, I can't wait to get out and ride in it! Thanks for the tip about contacting Tex Tan for more information with the serial number. Much appreciated. Great site!

Bill,
Texas Tanning is the original name for Tex Tan. Tex Tan was the first saddlery established in Yoakum, Texas - the western saddle capital of the world. Hereford is a Tex Tan brand - a very high quality Tex Tan brand.

I can't give you any info on the age and value of your saddle. I'd suggest you contact Tex Tan. Their website is www.textan.com.

Rod,
Those number's would be serial numbers identifying the model and often including a date manufactured code. Tex Tan is the only one that can decipher them for you. You might try contacting them through their website: www.textan.com/

As to value, the only source is the market place. Look on the used saddle sites and see what similar saddles are selling for - ebay and tacktrader.com are two good sites to check.

Sir/Madame:

Beautiful saddle pictured. Question: I have a western saddle simular to the one pictured which has been in the family for some time. Its a "Hereford Brand Tex Tan of Yoacum" and directly behind the saddle seat is a leather piece with 2 sets of numbers. Is there a definition for these numbers? What source is used to determine such a saddle's value? I'm just curious. Can you help?

Best regards,
