One of my favorite western artists is Donna Howell-Sickles. So, I was particularly tickled to read that Donna is one of the 2007 inductees into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame. How fitting. Donna specializes in capturing the spirtt and personality of the cowgirl on canvas. Her art is at once vintage and traditional and yet completely modern.

You can definitely see Donna’s inspiration of turn-of-the-century postcards in her art, but Donna interprets it with a style and direction all her own. Her use of rich, bold colors and interesting combinations of people, animals and objects creates works that draw you in and make you smile.

I have the beautiful coffee table book  Cowgirl Rising: The Art of Donna Howell-Sickles in my collection and permamently stored on my coffee table. Donna’s original work is available in galleries across the country, but you can also find more affordable prints of her work for sale on her own site and many print sites.

If you’ve ever longed to be a cowgirl, you’ll love the art of Donna Howell-Sickles.
