Used Saddle Pick of the Week: 15" Simco Trail Saddle
The "Used Saddle Pick of the Week"
Every week we scour the Internet searching for a particularly juicy bargain on a high quality used western saddle and feature it here on the WSG Saddle Blog. The saddles featured are listed for sale on ebay as of the date of the post.
The Western Saddle Guide is not the seller of the saddles featured and does not make any representations about them. We encourage all potential buyers to do their own due diligence on the seller and the saddle before purchasing.
There were a number of nice used Crates saddles for sale this week - both reining and roping saddles. But they weren't priced right, just a bit below the going price for new ones, so you won't see them featured here. But Crates is a nice brand to look for with used saddles.
Instead, we're featuring a nice, older 15 inch Simco saddle. The seller is billing it as a "Ladies/Youth Show" saddle, but that's just a reaction to the smaller footprint that older saddles have. Nowadays we've become more accustomed to bigger horses and bigger saddles, but this Simco is typical of a saddle from twenty or thirty years ago. So, I wouldn't specifically call it a ladies or youth saddle. It also doesn't have enough flash to qualify as a show saddle. I'd call it more of a trail saddle.
I had a very similar Simco saddle that was a great extra saddle for guests. Everyone always found it comfortable and it was light and easy to handle.
At $325 this saddle is a decent buy, but I wouldn't go much higher than that. There are quite of few of these Simco saddles around and they all seem to go for between $300 and $400, depending on their condition.
