Used Saddle Pick of the Week: 16" Double J Roper
The "Used Saddle Pick of the Week"
Every week we scour the Internet searching for a particularly juicy bargain on a high quality used western saddle and feature it here on the WSG Saddle Blog. The saddles featured are listed for sale on ebay as of the date of the post.
The Western Saddle Guide is not the seller of the saddles featured and does not make any representations about them. We encourage all potential buyers to do their own due diligence on the seller and the saddle before purchasing.
If you're saddle shopping, you should definitely be paying attention to our "Used Saddle Pick of the Week" choices. These are turning out to be some real bargains. Last week's choice - the 17" Dakota Wade Tree Ranch Saddle went for only $595. A good price for a not so common size saddle from a solid maker.
This Week's Pick
This week we're bringing a great bargain to light that's in a little higher price range from our earlier picks. Double J Saddlery out of Yoakum, Texas (Western Saddle Mecca) makes high quality production saddles.
You'll be hard-pressed to find a new Double J saddle for under $1500 and most will be over $2000. But there's a reason for those prices. These are extremely well built saddles with the finest materials. So, finding a good used Double J saddle is a great way to step up into a higher saddle class without paying full price.
This week we've found a used 16" Double J Roper that's in very good shape. It's has Full Quarter Horse Bars (FQHB), roughout seat, jockeys and fenders, floral tooling on the fork and skirts, and a 3 1/2" cantle. Now, this package also includes a new Cactus Saddlery headstall - real sterling hardware, braided rawhide, and horsehair accents. I'd rather they didn't do this bundling of tack, but in this case you're getting a second nice piece. Cactus Saddlery is a quality tack maker (good saddles too) and this is an attractive headstall.
There's no bids as of this writing and the starting bid is $950. That's a nice price for a very nice package. If you're looking for a quality roping saddle, this one is definitely worth taking a look at.
