Eclectic Horseman

I subscribe to most of the horse magazines and each month I pore over them. It's amazing how much there is to know. One magazine that is unique and really stands out, though, is "Eclectic Horseman."

Eclectic Horseman has both a very rich website and a bi-monthly print magazine. The magazine isn't as shiny and flashy as many of the other horse magazines, but it has some of the best horsemanship information out there. Their philosophy leans toward the natural horsemanship side, although I don't know that I've ever seen them use that phrase. While their horsemanship approach is cross-discipline, the look-and-feel leans toward the "buckaroo" side, which I love.

They have regular contributors such as Martin Black, who write about a wide range of horsemanship issues, including lots of how-to articles.  They also showcase gearmakers and other craftsman.

If you're looking for a quality western saddle, the classifieds section on the website and in the magazine is a gold mine. You'll find Harwoods, McCalls, Chas Weldons, and other great brands of western saddle making for sale. It's quality over quantity here. though, so you have to be patient and then act quickly when you see what you want. You can also post an ad for the saddle you're looking for.

Check out the website:  Eclectic Horseman
You can subscribe to the print magazine from the site.
