19th Century Miliatry Saddles

Border State's Leather in Arkansas is a very special type of saddle shop. Owner Doug Kidd produces replicas of 19th century military saddles and also some Revolutionary War and WWI saddles.

Kidd's saddles are considered to be the most historically accurate and authentic saddles available. He uses authentic hand tools and machinery of the period to build his saddles. Kidd is an avid student of the past and has put extensive time in researching the materials and production methods of the military saddlemakers.

It may seem like an odd specialty but there is quite a large market for these saddles among re-enactors, museums, and motion picture production companies.

Kidd, himself an avid re-enactor, regularly consults with museum curators and has restored countless artifacts. He's most proud of his work with the saddler for the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.
