Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum

You've probably figured out by now that I LOVE western saddles - their heritage and tradition, their artistry and craftsmanship, their extreme functionality. That's why I got so excited when I stumbled accorss the Schroeder Saddletree Factory Museum located in Madison, Indiana.

The Shroeder factory operated from 1878 to 1975 continuously by the Schroeder family. It was part of a booming saddltree industry in  Madison, where, at one time, thirteen different saddletree companies operated. Schroeder's produced 8000-10,000 trees per year. When it closed, it was left completely intact. Further restoration has turned it into a fantasic working museum.

Madison is located in southern Indiana on the banks of the Ohio River. The museum is open from mid-April to October.
