There’s more to saddle care then just keeping it clean and tidy. You need to regularly check your saddle thoroughly for worn and damaged parts. These are problems you want to discover while you’re on the ground at home, rather than in the saddle in the middle of nowhere.
When inspecting your saddle, pay particular attention to the straps – latigo (aka cinch strap), off billet, cinch connecting strap, stirrup leathers, and stirrup hobbles . These are the parts that can put you in a heep of trouble if they break.
If you see worn leather or damaged hardware, get them repaired or replaced immediately. Don’t temp fate by trying to get a few more rides out of them.
