It’s the first day of May today and here in Montana that means that the world famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale is just around the corner.  This year the dates are May 18th – 20th.

bucking horseFor this special weekend the population of Miles City doubles as folks from across Montana, the rest of the country, and even foreign countries come to town to enjoy this wonderfully western event. It’s a jam-packed, action weekend that has been called the cowboy Mardi Gras.

The centerpiece of the event is of course the bucking horse sale where rodeo stock contractors and anyone else interested bid on over 200 head of roughstock after watching them perform. Horses – both bareback and and saddle broncs – and bulls perform and are auctioned.

But there is so much more.  Pari-mutual horse racing, parade, concerts, street dances, wild horse races, barbecues, trade show, art shows. Just a wonderful celebration of the western lifestyle. And a darn good part-y!

Miles City is located about 150 miles east of Billings and has a population of about 8500 on every other weekend but this one. The folks of Miles City are some of the friendliest around and they’ll make you feel welcome wherever you’re from. Make sure you rest up before you come cause I guarantee you’ll be worn out when you leave.

You think I’m just bragging cause I’m a Montanan? Check out what the Washington Post had to say about the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale.
